FAT FaT
FAT TROUT TRAILER PARK is a post-punk response to modern life, where beyond the noise lies an incisive critique of contemporary society. Economic and environmental violence are looming presences; depression rears its head and hedonism spirals out of control as FAT TROUT TRAILER PARK interrogates its overarching theme: 21st century disillusionment.
The band's sophomore EP FLORIDA (09.30.2022) is a four-track cluster of angst, anxiety and antagonistic jabs aimed at the establishment. Opener "Sleepy Peeps" is a commuter's anthem, a runaway subway train at rush hour with spilt coffee cascading across its floors.
The brutalist, anti-capitalist monolith "Belt" follows. Built on the foundation of a cutthroat opening riff, the track's imposing form is a stark backdrop for a sardonic deconstruction of cronyism and our prevailing culture of narcissism and nepotism. Accompanied by a subversive, provocative video that proposes an erotic, emancipatory alternative to the corporate grind, "Belt" is a three-minute demolition of late-capitalism.
"New Skin" communicates the claustrophobia of the city and the overbearing oppression of the information age as the track spirals into drum-driven adrenalin rushes and nightmarish psychedelic interludes.
Title track "Florida" trades in vivid imagery, the band assuming the position of a park ranger wading through alligator-infested swamps, descending into a warped, paranoid fever dream searching for a metaphor for America washed up on the shores of the notorious state.
***
With sophisticated, articulate aggression the Florida EP stands to continue FAT TROUT TRAILER PARK's assault on Wall Street culture and the phoney meritocracy, while frequently retreating to review the inner turmoil of the individual in such disturbing times.
Until its release, the band continues its ascent through the New York City live schedule, cutting a formidable force in a city in the early throes of a new era of guitar-driven dissidence.
