FAMILY TIME FLESH OUT INCESTUAL TENSIONS ON THEIR NEW VIDEO FOR 'DAS RISIKO'
The Hispano-German cousins Family Time have released a new single ahead of their album coming out this Spring. Blue-eyed Maximilian—the wizard mind behind their razor-sharp sound—steps into the spotlight taking the lead on the self-penned 'Das Risiko'.
In their video for the song, directed by Kieran Behan, the cousins have wanted to explore their own intimate relationship—one known to be long, fruitful and deeply complicated—and how, as with any decent love story, it is shot through with phantasmagoric projections, delusion, anxiety, and brooding sexual tension.
The video was shot deep in the Berlin winter, where the pair, who have also lived between London and Barcelona, settled down to record their forthcoming EP, The Golden Years.
Drawing from the eighties’ Neue Deutsche Welle and yet somehow still exuding the fin-de-siècle allure that is guiding Family Time’s new work, 'Das Risiko' is the duo’s first ever song in German. The song howls and scowls at the listener about falling anvils, burning hands and glowing microphones. The chorus, however, floods in and pulls back in a gesture of tenderness, with a plea to resist falling prey to fear.
A composition of rare dexterity, The Golden Years maps the shifting moods of the caffeinated, sashaying between precise dissections of romance on lead single 'New Positions' to the sardonic rant against the rigged game of life that threatens to swallow the compulsive coffee consumer on the freak-country rocker 'Butterfly Season'.
Album closer 'Ruby' revives the 'Das Risiko' dance, only with the swagger supplanted by uncertainty and imploring questions that echo unanswered as the beat fades out and Family Time seek their next fix. The Golden Years arrives 05.20.22.
